IdealFit Review + Giveaway

Happy Saturday!! I'm not sure if it's because I was running all over the place this week or what, but this week felt sooooo long. One thing is for sure, I'm thrilled that it's the weekend!!

I use the weekends to get longer workouts in because the gym is less crowded and typically I'm not under a time constraint. Today I opted for a full body workout with some extra leg sets because I knew I wouldn't have to fight the guys to get a smith machine (my gym doesn't have squat racks). Morning workouts are my favorite for a number of reasons, but mainly because it helps wake me up. It gets the blood flowing, adrenaline rushing and helps me feel energized for the day.

Since I workout so early in the morning I don't eat breakfast before I hit the gym. I know I'll get some haters telling me how terrible it is to do that, but my body does not handle food before a workout well at all. I do however make sure to have a protein shake before I hit the gym- just protein mixed with water, this way I'm not hungry during a workout and I have energy to push through.

Recently I got to try out some products from IdealFit. I was super pumped to try IdealFit products because the creator, Lindsey Matthews, is a certified nutritionist and personal trainer. It's a product that's made specifically for women (sorry fellas). All too often proteins are made and marketed specifically to men, but what companies fail to grasp is women use protein supplements too and men and women's bodies are different. Men have an easier time building muscle then women thanks to biologic factors. Lindsey has taken all of this into account when creating IdealFit and thus created an entire product line for women. Everything from protein to BCAAs are included in the line to help you achieve your fitness goals.

I got a few friends to help me test out the products. First up was the protein. When we opened the french vanilla protein it smelt amazing! The macros are really awesome for the protein too, 20g protein/0g carbs/0g fat for a total of 80 calories per scoop. The protein comes in four really fun flavors french vanilla, chocolate brownie, cake batter and piña colada. The macros are the same for all four flavors. A container runs $39.99 and has enough for 30 servings. IdealFit protein is gluten free (YAY!)  and uses kosher dairy. Seeing as I can't have milk I let my friends test it out and they loved it! The taste was just as good as the smell and it was filling. I did some baking with the french vanilla protein and it baked very well! I made some protein pancakes for a friend who was in town visiting and she loved the vanilla taste, she didn't even know I used protein powder until I told her. I also made vanilla coconut energy balls that turned out really good (recipe will be up on Monday). Further proof that not all protein powders are thick and chunky.

Next up was the BCAAs. I tested the raspberry lemonade flavor and immediately liked it. I rarely use BCAAs just because I don't feel the need, but if I'm squeezing in an extra workout with a friend I'll use them so I feel energized and sustained throughout the workout. The flavor was really good without being overly artificial and just like the protein it is gluten free.

A container of fat burner pills was also included, but none of us took any because we simply don't believe in taking 'diet pills.'  If you're truly looking to lose weight the only way to do that is by putting in a lot of hard work- changing eating habits, focusing on whole foods, fruits, veggies, and protein, getting a good nights sleep, and of course exercising regularly. There is no magic pill that is going to help you lose weight.

Overall we all loved the protein and BCAAs. The macros are great, they taste good and they're not loaded with scary chemicals and who knows what else. All of the products complimented our active lifestyles perfectly. We'd take protein before a workout and BCAAs during and we felt great whether we were lifting, running, cycling, doing yoga, paddleboarding or any other sort of activity.

  1. Ooh wow Rachael, I've never heard of a protein powder that is just for women. I would really love to try this. One thing that I've found with some of the higher quality protein powder (or dairy free/gluten free ones) is that they are sometimes chalky. Is this kind of chalky?

    1. It's fantastic to have a protein powder formulated for women because our bodies are so different from men's! I've tried so many allergy friendly protein powder and a lot of them are chalky. This one is an incredibly thin protein powder with small granules and it wasn't chalky in the least! Even when it was mixed with just water there wasn't any chunks and it didn't separate, plus it's really tasty!

  2. I love this, thanks for your honesty and a great review! I worried when I first started with IdealLean but I'm in love now and I'm excited to learn more from other women who love it too!

    1. Thank you so much for your kind words!! I always try to give as complete of a review as I can because I always look at other peoples reviews before buying a product. I'm so glad you like their products and I love that it's made by women for women! Men just don't always understand what is ladies need 😉

  3. I LOVE the pink lemonade as well, so so so good!

    1. It's so good!! I love that it doesn't taste artificial, so many other brands I've tried have tasted chemically and nasty. But this is so tasty and perfect for summer😋

  4. I too love that this product was created by women for women! It can make all the difference!

    1. It really does make all the difference!! Men's bodies are different and they don't understand how the female body works or what it needs, so that's why I love this brand👌🏼

  5. Drop 30 Pounds in 8 Weeks?

Two summers ago, I worked with a great gal from Hollywood, Rachel Nichols.
Rachel did some TT workouts while filming a movie up here in Toronto.

That's about it for me in terms of training Hollywood actors or
actresses in person, but recently I was asked, "Imagine you're
working with a major film star who has eight weeks to lose 30
pounds of fat and build some muscle in preparation for the lead
role in the latest Hollywood blockbuster. What do you do with them?"

    Here's my answer...

I would have control over every single thing that they eat. That's
the biggest ticket to success here. No booze, no excess sugar, and
just giving them enough reward to stick with the program.

If this "star" is a typical overweight, sedentary individual, we'll have
no problem getting rid of 20 pounds of fat through nutrition.

As for exercise, we need to be consistent, and stick with our intensity
principles. We would do 3 hard workouts per week using strength
training followed by interval training with the program being centered
around basic movement patterns done with free weights.

Everything is done in supersets in the workout to get more done in
less time. For example, we might do a squat supersetted with a
pressing exercise. I also like to pair free weight exercises and
bodyweight exercises in supersets, for example, a dumbbell split
squat paired with a decline pushup.

We'll do 3 superset pairs, each for 1-3 sets, and stick to 8
repetitions per set. Then we'll finish the workout with 6 hard
intervals of 30-60 seconds (with 60-120 seconds rest between each).
This way, we are in and out of the gym in 45 minutes.

On "off days", we'd still get at least 30 minutes, if not 60
minutes, of low-intensity exercise. But it wouldn't just be slow
cardio. Instead, we'd focus on low-intensity bodyweight training.
For example, if the actor can do a maximum of 25 bodyweight squats,
15 pushups, and 5 chinups, we would use easier versions of those
    exercises in circuits.

Here's a sample 6 exercise bodyweight circuit that we'd do at least
3 times, doing 10 reps per exercise.

    Wall Squat
    Kneeling Pushup
    Beginner Inverted Bodyweight Row
    Stability Ball Leg Curl
    Mountain Climber

After that, we might cross train with a variety of cardio exercises
to avoid overuse injuries that occur when you repeatedly do the
    same activity and nothing else.

So that's pretty much it. If he (or she) sticks to their nutrition,
we're as good as gold and the actor will be ready just in time.

"Craig's workouts were fun and challenging - I didn't dread going to the
gym and I wasn't overly sore after our sessions. Much like my trainer in
LA, Craig's workouts were always different: the exercises, the supersets,
the weights...the combination of elements always varied and, therefore,
I never got bored or felt like I was in a workout rut. And my co-stars
couldn't believe how great my arms looked, thanks to Craig helping me
do my first chin-up. Thanks Craig!"
