Elli Quark Review
I love following my fellow foodies on Instagram, but the only problem is they post pictures of such awesome products that I want to try them all! On a college student's budget (or any budget for that matter) that's just not realistic.
One item I kept seeing on my feed was Elli Quark. Foodies raved about it and I didn't get it because when you look at it it looks just like yogurt. When I was out visiting a friend we stopped by a newer organic market to check it out. I was stoked when I saw they carried Elli Quark (although there were only a few flavors) and definitely wanted to give it a try- I bought plain and red velvet. This is NOT a sponsored post, I bought these myself!
I tried the plain kind first and I am not a plain yogurt kinda gal. The nutrition really impressed me with both flavors. The plain contains 90 calories, 6 grams carbs, 0 fat, and 17 grams of protein. The red velvet contains 80 calories, 11 grams carbs, 0 grams fat, 14 grams of protein. All of the quarks are gluten, soy, nut, and corn free, gelatin free, vegetarian friendly, and have no added sugar.
I was surprised to find that I really liked the plain flavor. Most plain greek yogurts tend to be very bitter and this was not like that. It was very thick (WAY thicker than greek yogurt) and creamy. I added in some fresh strawberries, blackberries, raspberries, and blueberries for added flavor.
The red velvet kind also had me skeptical. I have never actually had a red velvet cake or cupcake before so I can't tell you what it's like in comparison to that. However, I can tell you that it's delicious! I packed it in my lunch for work and ate it without adding anything in. It's thick and creamy (more so than greek yogurt) and surprisingly filling.
I give both flavors two thumbs up! The only negative to these is the price at about $2 a piece. A bit too pricey to eat every day (or every other day), but as a special treat I think it's ok!
