Tuesday Bodyweight Workout

Good morning and happy Tuesday!! I am happy to report the sun is shinning for the first time in what feels like forever!! I have to work today, but the sunshine will be enjoyed on my morning drive instead of the usual rain.

The gym is closed today and tomorrow for "renovations," so I was stuck doing my workout at home. Needless to say I will be banging down the door at 5am on Thursday when they reopen (so much for a 24/7 gym). Anyway I decided to ditch the cardio this morning and went with a bodyweight workout instead.

Normally I will just start working out and do the exercises as they come, but today I had a slight plan in mind. I did circuits and let me tell you I was definitely sweating! Each circuit is only 4 moves, but on the second time around I increased the number of reps by 5 or 10. You can rest between circuits, but try not to rest more than 30 seconds- keep that heart rate up!

If you're up for a challenge once you've gone through all the circuits twice go through circuits 1-4 all in a row as supersets-aka no rest between sets. The only equipment I used for this workout was an ab roller (bought for cheap on amazon) and a medicine ball (also bought on amazon). If you don't have those things use things you do have- heavy books, big jugs of water, etc.

Here's to bodyweight workouts and a what will be a great Tuesday!

Meal Prep: Turkey Veggie Meatballs

Happy Monday! I think I may need to canoe to work with all the rain we've been getting. What started out as a really dry spring has turned into a very soggy summer so far. Why can't we redirect the rain out to California where they really need it? Now that would be an epic, just saying!

This past weekend was relatively calm, which all things considered is rather unusual for my family. I like to be busy, but sometimes it's nice to just chill out too. Per usual I spent a lot of time at the gym. I've been increasing my weights and after two days of epic arm workouts (among other workouts) holy moly I have noodle arms! No pain no gain right?

Aside from that the countdown to my birthday is officially on! Only 6 days until I turn 21- whoop whoop! This year will be fun because I have to share my day with my dad because it's also Father's Day, I propose a toast to both of us! Hehe, anyway this week's meal prep actually involves meat! I want to try to add a little meat in my diet to see how my body reacts. Of course I added lots of veggies and played around with some spices. With the meatballs I had roasted red potatoes, green beans, and mushrooms.

Turkey Veggie Meatballs
  • 1.2 lb Jenny-O extra lean ground turkey
  • 1/3 cup gluten free breadcrumbs
  • 3 Tablespoons almond flour
  • 1 teaspoon minced garlic
  • 1 small zucchini, grated
  • 1 small carrot or about 5 baby carrots, grated
  • pinch garlic powder
  • pinch onion powder
  • pinch ground black pepper
  • pinch lemon peel seasoning
  • small squeeze fresh lemon juice (optional, but it gives it a nice kick)
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 tablespoon olive oil

Preheat the oven to 400F degrees.

Spraying a large baking sheet with nonstick cook spray or coconut oil.

In a large mixing bowl combine all ingredients.

When all the ingredients are mixed together begin forming the meat balls. It is messy, but the easiest way is to use your hands. I made the balls about 1.5-2 inches and was able to make 34 meatballs.

Bake at 400F for 18-20 minutes. To check to see if the meatballs are cooked slice into one- if the juices run clear and the inside is not pink they are done. If they are not done allow them to cook for an additional 2-3 minutes and check again.

Serve immediately or allow the meatballs to cool completely before storing in an airtight container in the fridge or freezer.

Thursday Thoughts #8

[Source]
1. This will probably be short as I'm getting ready to head out the door to a barre pilates class! My cousin and I started going to a fitness studio near us and we are trying out a bunch of different classes. Last Saturday was piyo, Wednesday nights are always yoga, and today is barre! I'm excited because I've heard to much about this type of class, however, I'm also a horrible dancer (although I do a mean sprinkler). Here's to hoping I don't injure anyone else- or myself.

2. Praise the lord for individual almond butter packs! I carry this giant journalist bag to work and apparently when you have a nut butter problem you carry packs of nut butter in there...this bad boy saved me at work when I was stuck there late. Plus I never say no to almond butter!

3. 10 DAYS UNTIL MY 21ST BIRTHDAY!!!! I'm only a little excited if you can't tell :) Most of my friends have been 21 for months or they are a year or two older than me. They go to Painting with a Twist all the time but guess who could never go? Yup, me! Now that I will officially be able to go we are planning a party- I'm not a good painter but maybe wine will bring out my creative side- or not.

4. The dog that can't be kept out of the lake smells like the lake- YUCK! I don't even know what to do anymore. I give her oatmeal baths (she has sensitive skin) and we have doggie deodorant spray but we just can't keep her smelling nice. I guess until winter rolls around and the lake freezes Cora will just smell like the lake...ugh.

5. When a restaurant does not have gluten free options I make it gluten free! I went out to eat a few days ago and they didn't have any gluten free options, so I modified a greek salad to make it gluten free. I let everyone else eat the chicken skewers and humus as I wasn't sure what was in the humus. It also came with a side of pita bread but I asked them to hold the bread. The salad was still delicious, the beets were so good!

6. Last one before I have to run out the door (semi-late). One of my friends sent this too me and I literally laughed out loud. It's so true! I always come in looking nice and by the end it looks like I got chewed up and spit out!

Have a great Thursday!
